In spring of 1779, a detachment of Georgia militia under Lieutenant Colonel Ely Kershaw took part in the operations against Loyalists on the South Carolina and Georgia frontier, which were launched by Brigadier General Andrew Williamson in the aftermath of the Battle of Kettle Creek.
